GTA 6 arrives on Thursday, 19 November 2026, and the question in group chats across Delhi NCR has shifted. Most people have accepted that they need a PS5. Now they want to know if they need the Pro.
Short answer: no. A standard PS5 plays GTA 6 at launch, and it is the console Rockstar used to capture its own launch trailer. If you are renting for launch week, a regular PS5 at ₹149/day is the sensible pick, and it is plug-and-play the day it reaches your home in Noida, Gurugram or Delhi.
Here is what is confirmed, what is still rumour, and what it means if you are planning a rental around release.
Which consoles can actually play GTA 6?
GTA 6 is a PS5 and Xbox Series X|S game. It will not run on PS4. Sony’s own GTA VI page says it plainly: the game is only playable on PlayStation 5 consoles. If the old PS4 under the TV was your plan, it will not work.
The PS5 Pro counts as a PS5, so it plays the game too. The real question is whether the extra hardware changes anything you would notice.
What does “PS5 Pro Enhanced” mean for GTA 6?
PlayStation lists GTA 6 with a “PS5 Pro Enhanced” badge. That tells you some optimisation exists for the Pro. It does not tell you what.
Neither Sony nor Rockstar has said whether the Pro gets sharper resolution, better ray tracing, a higher frame rate or some mix. When PlayStation published the game’s PS5 feature list in October, Vice noted that the listing confirms support but gives no detail, and that the badge should not be read as a promise of 60 FPS.
Anyone claiming the Pro version looks twice as good is guessing.
Will GTA 6 run at 60 FPS on PS5 Pro?
Nothing official says so. During preview sessions in August, Rockstar North’s Rob Nelson reportedly told a content creator that the game runs at 30 FPS on console, and that he would need to check with the technical team about any 60 FPS option at launch or later. Kotaku and Vice both covered those comments.
The claim that the Pro will hit 60 FPS came from a YouTuber, not from Rockstar or Sony. Treat it as an unverified leak. Some technical analysts also think the game is limited by the CPU, which handles traffic, crowds and physics. The Pro’s CPU is close to the base PS5’s, so a big frame rate jump is far from certain.
For planning, assume 30 FPS on every console at launch. Rockstar shipped GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 the same way on their original consoles, and millions of people played them happily.
Can you even get a PS5 Pro in India?
Not through official channels, at least not yet. As of early October 2026, Sony had not launched the PS5 Pro in India. It showed up on the Bureau of Indian Standards database in March, but certification is not a launch.
That leaves grey imports. These usually cost well above official PS5 pricing and typically come without Sony India warranty. Meanwhile the standard PS5 now lists at ₹69,990 in India after this year’s price hike, and stock has been patchy.
For a launch window built around one game, chasing an imported Pro is a lot of money and risk for an upgrade nobody has measured.
PS5 vs PS5 Pro for GTA 6: how do they compare?

- Pro improvements: badge confirmed, details not announced
- Official sale in India: PS5 yes; PS5 Pro not officially sold

What do you actually need on a rented PS5 for GTA 6?
A few practical things matter more than Pro vs base.
The game. GTA 6 costs ₹5,999 for the Standard Edition and ₹7,499 for the Ultimate Edition on the PlayStation Store in India. The boxed retail copy contains a download code, not a disc, so either way it installs over the internet.
Download timing. Digital pre-orders can start preloading on 12 November, a week before launch. If you want to play the minute it goes live, plan your rental and download around that window, and ask on WhatsApp about GTA 6 availability with your rental dates.
A decent TV. A 4K TV over HDMI is ideal, but GTA 6 will still look good on a regular full HD screen. The gap between your TV and a friend’s TV will likely be bigger than the gap between a PS5 and a Pro.
A free weekend. GTA 6 is a single-player game. There is no split-screen co-op to plan around, so one controller and a comfortable couch are enough.
When does renting make more sense than upgrading?
If you already own a PS5, the Pro question is about paying extra for improvements nobody has detailed. If you do not own a PS5 at all, the rent vs buy decision comes first, and we covered it in our post on whether you should buy a PS5 just for GTA 6. Still choosing a platform? For a launch week run through Vice City in Noida, Gurugram or Delhi, a rented standard PS5 gets you playing on day one at ₹149/day. No import warranty worries, and no expensive box gathering dust once the credits roll. Game On, Your Way.
